Ronald Louis Sathre, AKA "Grumpy" 81 of Olmsted Township, Ohio, passed away on March 1st, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. This was following a 20-month-long, hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Cleveland to Louis and Hazel "Pletcher" Sathre.
Ron was the youngest of his siblings and relished being "the baby." He loved telling stories of days spent in Howard, Pennsylvania, with his family. His heritage was very important to him. Although he was part Pennsylvania Dutch and a devoted Penn State fan, one would only know that he was Norwegian, as he took great pride in his Nordic ancestry.
He was known for his calm demeanor, smile, and his love for the beach where he would bring home his "souvenir" tan. Serving as a distinguished past president of both the Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls and the Olmsted Jaycees, he spent many years helping the community. His membership in Kiwanis extended for more than 45 years. After retirement from Progress Wire Products, he kept himself busy by creating metal art signs. His favorite name to be called was "Grumpy", bestowed onto him by his granddaughters. To say he was a proud grandfather would be an understatement. Ron was loved by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his son, Ronald (Sue) of Palm Bay, FL, daughter, Jennifer (Larry) of Olmsted Township, brother Leroy of Fort Lauderdale, FL, former wife Kitty (neé Hartmann), granddaughters; Becca and Carley, girlfriend Barbara Hobbs, lifelong friend Jim Caughey, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hazel (neé Pletcher) Sathre; and siblings, Carl (Jean) Sathre, Sylvia (Richard) Eckhardt, Louise (Clarence) Cook, Larry (Nancy) Sathre, and Harold Sathre.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Howard Methodist Church, 144 S. Main St, Howard. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Craig Rose officiating. Ron will be laid to rest in Schenck's Cemetery in rural Howard.
